Covers around the World – Cate Tiernan’s Immortal Beloved
March 31st, 2012 || Posted in Covers Around the World || 3 commentsDo you love book covers? I do, a lot. As a European book blogger I stumble all the time over different national book covers for the same book. I was and am still very much fascinated by this and therefore created this feature where international book covers are presented and compared to each other.
This week I’m featuring the different national covers for Cate Tiernan’s Immortal Beloved. There is quite a diversity in the covers, which is refreshing. First I have say, I absolutely despise the cover for US hardcover version. Though it picks up on the symbol ring, which is an integral part of the story line, nothing in this design appeals to me . The bold paperback version is better but what’s the meaning? The UK cover is very pretty, but once again there is not connection to the story. Actually most of the covers are failure, at least to my mind. There is only one cover I absolutely love. It’s the Catalan version, very simple but nevertheless or maybe because of it’s simplicity even more impressive. And it’s an appropriate illustration of the heroine of the story, Nas.
US hardcover - US paperback – UK

Germany – France – Netherlands

Spain – Catalan – Italy
May favourite cover is the beautiful simple Catalan one. Which one do you prefer?

Actually the Spain and Catalan versions look the most amateurish to me (while still being, in their own way, very good).
I like all the covers, but the ones that really pop are Italy’s and US Paperback. And that is without reading the book, which means I’m really judging the book by the cover, rather than trying to analyze a cover after reading the book. :)
Interesting entry, I really enjoyed looking at the differences. It is amazing how so many artists came up with such different interpretations. And I’m surprised that the same cover wasn’t used for multiple books (except Spain, which uses the same cover for both Spanish and Catalan which makes perfect sense).

I remember seeing the German cover and scratching my head cause it looked so much like the German Kate Daniels novels. XD
