Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly Meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. Book bloggers present upcoming books they can’t wait to read and share their enthusiasm about new releases.

I don’t read enough contemporary novels! Not by far.And I do want to change this, but most contemporary books don’t interest me. Trish Dollar’s debut novel Something Like Normalin contrast picked my interest immediately. The concept isn’t new but it’s sounds intriguing and emotional and like something real. And the almost kiss on the cover is pretty awesome, too.

Title: Something Like Normal
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Genre: Contemporary
Release Date: June 19th 2012

I just came home from Afghanistan.
My parents are splitting up.
My brother has stolen my girlfriend.
(He also stole my car.)
And I’m haunted by the ghost of my best friend.
Then I run into Harper.
(Technically, her fist runs into my face.)
She’s beautiful, smart, funny…
…and wants nothing to do with
the messed-up Marine who ruined her life.

Sometimes the best you can hope for
is something like normal.
Sometimes what you get
can be even better.

I avoid contemps like the plague, too!!!! I’m always escaping reality. But this one sounds actually cute, not all that too tragic.

This is my year of the YA/YA-Mature contemp and grittier stuff for a change so this is right up my alley. There are a few discharged-military-themed books out this year, I think, this sounds terrific and not too dark. Definitely one to add to my list!

I just added this to my TBR list earlier. I don’t normally read a lot of contemp YA, but this one just sounds like it would be an amazing read.

Yes, doesn’t it? I never really got into contemporary YA, maybe because I’m grown up myself and can’t be bothered when there is not additional paranormal element.
